The staff were cheerful and helpful and its history and location were great
Small things like having a four poster bed with one post half missing and the carpeting having stains
some pleasant and helpful staff
some less than competent staff
The Hotel is beautiful building, lots of warrens of rooms and corridors, all very inviting and relaxing, we felt like we were in someones stately home. Our room in particular was very spacious, lovely furnishings, huge bathroom, so quiet even with a wedding reception taking place! We would definitely come back again!! The bar was very welcoming, lovely staff with lots of local knowledge of places to visit etc and the breakfast was out of this world!! a real treat, we felt thoroughly spoilt throughout our stay. So glad we have family in Grantham, means we have an excuse to go back!
If I was to be very very picky I would say that the bathroom tiles needed to be re grouted or whitened, but hey, they are tiles!
it was very nice and quiet and comfortible i will be coming back in the near future maybe this time for longer ,
the sheets on the bed were nice and fresh but the top cover on the bed had stains on it ,
Staff changed our room after original room was inhabitable due to uncontrollable heating.
Although under (2) we marked the cleanliness of the room as fair, this was relating to the day to day cleanliness. The bathroom would benefit from refurbishment especially the window area and the net curtains were noticably very dirty.
The staff were extremely willing, polite and friendly
Dinner was very poor, with a starter consisting of frozen prawns and a few chunks of pineapple piled on some salad leaves and covered in chilli oil. The pan-fried salmon had obviously been left in the oven and was seriously over-cooked. Everything had the awful after taste of burnt smoke, presumably because the oven hadn't been cleaned properly. Ugh. The wireless internet didn't work and our room came complete with a dirty cup and woman's thong, which was in the wardrobe (seriously unpleasant). A pity because the staff were very nice and this place undoubtedly has potential -- everything smacked of being run by bean-counters keeping costs low at the expense of their customers.
Absolutely nothing. Hotel needs serious cleanning / refurbishment. Certainly wont be back
Our room had not been cleaned and dirty clothes from previous guest still in room. Foul smell of sewage / gas in bathroom
Nice old hotel with charecter
Music (thump thump) could be heard in the background late into the early hours
The age and history.
The sign for the bistro hides the sign for the hotel as you approche in a car.
The staff were very professional and sought to quickly deal with any problems
We had a superior room for ourselves, and our daughter had a standard room. Ours turned out to be a suite, with a comfortable sitting room, large bedroom, and spacious modern bathroom. Our daughter's room was smaller, but she was delighted to find it had a four poster bed. We were our for dinner, but did enjoy the full inclusive traditional breakfast before we departed.
There was free wifi in the hotel as advertised, but the signal didn't reach to either our room or our daughter's.
I have stayed many times now and always enjoy myself. It was great to be given the particular room that I had requested.
Breakfast not fantastic, but adequate.
The room was very comfortable and the staff extremely hospitable. Really excellent breakfast. Very good value for money.
This is a place with lots of character. Historical artefacts and antique furniture are displayed everywhere and the decor is tastefully adapted. Everyone is really friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. Overall, this hotel has a lovely and pleasant atmosphere and we'd go back to it anytime.
The bed was a little on the small and soft side and there was too much furniture in the room. We didn't really need 2 wardrobes and 3 chests of drawers! It was a bit of a trek to the room through narrow corridors with some steps and lots of firedoors.
The hotel was very comfortable and clean, and I found the staff very friendly. The room was a nice size with lage en suite. Lots of info up on the walls, about the hotels long history. Also it is in good location for visits to Belton House and Belvoir Castle. Overall I would say this hotel stay was value for money.
I would definately recommend a stay at this hotel, but I would advise that you give the restaurant a miss, and eat elsewhere. I would expect much better for the prices they charged (One of our starters being barely edible). On top of that, the portions were tiny, and we came away not only disappointed but still hungry.
